The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) was established in 1997 with the aim of developing globally accepted guidelines for voluntary reporting on the economic, environmental and societal activities of organizations and companies. The guidelines were published in 2000, revised for the first time two years later and now are now considered to be an extensive set of indicators that are intended to cover all dimensions of sustainable development.
Since 2003, BASF has been participating in the feedback meetings of the Global Reporting Initiative and has been working to further develop the guidelines together with experts from industry, nongovernmental organizations, analysts and financial auditors. We reported on the basis of the GRI for the first time in our Corporate Report 2003.
The online index contains all GRI reporting elements, all GRI core and additional indicators and shows where details are to be found in our online reporting. We also give a brief explanation if no data are available for a given indicator. More information can be found at: www.globalreporting.org
